Event: Human Rights Conference -Isla Mujeres: Thursday July 24, 9-3pm
Date:July 24, 2008
Description:The Human Rights Commission of Q. Roo-Isla Mujeres will be sponsering a day-long conference this upcoming Thursday July 24th from 9am-3pm at the Convention Center downtown. For those of you who don't know, a new Human Rights Office was opened in Isla a few years back. While the Human Rights Commission works with the government, they are a private, non-governmental organization. The conference will be focused on the issues of education, health and youth delinquency prevention- all specific to Isla. The conference is free and open to all, and anyone who feels strongly about these issues, human rights and the health of our community is encouraged to participate.
Outcome:Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in the Human Rights Conference last Thursday. It was an interesting day with several speakers in the morning and work/discussion tables in the afternoon.

The PEACE crew sat in on the "education" work table and with others from the community, discussed our concerns with aspects of the educational system on Isla. Great discussions were had, and solutions proposed. Please stay tuned for more info. as this partnership and problem-solving process develops.
